Team Accord: Jo Bruton, Senior Client Director

Meet Jo, our esteemed Senior Client Director with a passion for driving impactful marketing strategies and fostering strong client relationships.

 

What inspired you to join Accord Marketing?

Before working for Accord, I worked in the advertising departments at a few national newspapers. This meant I worked closely with Accord over several years. I always loved the ethos and the people at Accord. Accord looks after its clients; the teams is always proactive and genuinely care about them.

When I was looking to move agency side, there was no other place I wanted to work than Accord. I’m now nearly seven years into my role here and have never looked back.

What is your role, and what do you enjoy most about it?

I’m a Senior Client Director whose role is to be the overarching lead on my accounts, bringing all aspects together.

What I enjoy most about my role is that I get to work across a variety of accounts that use Accord for different services and sectors, meaning no day is ever the same.

What project are you most proud of?

My first TV campaign was very exciting; from initial concepts of storyboards to seeing it played live out on air, it was something really new for me.

I also entered a client for a competition with a national newspaper and won them £100,000 worth of free media spend.

And what do you find the most challenging?

I think everyone can be guilty of thinking that everyone is the same as us regarding media habits. People in marketing or advertising aren’t like the general population; we see media differently, so it helps to take yourself out of that mindset and look holistically at the overall landscape. 

What do you get up to in your spare time outside of work?

Having recently added a Golden Retriever puppy into our household, my spare time is mostly dog walks or figuring out what he’s chewed/destroyed that he shouldn’t have.

What advice would you give to someone starting in the industry?

No question is ever a stupid question. Ask as many people as much as you want. Marketing is constantly changing and evolving; you need to collaborate with your colleagues as much as possible.

If you could swap your role with anyone else in the company, who would it be?

Jasman Ahmad, our Strategy Director. He has a really varied role working with clients and research companies to pull together insights and larger research pieces. He’s also a fantastic presenter and speaks at many events, which always looks fun.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

To grow over five feet tall.

What’s the most interesting book, podcast, or movie you’ve read/watched recently?

I’ve just read The Pillowman after seeing the play in London. I highly recommend it!

What’s something on your bucket list that you haven’t had the chance to do yet?

I’m now learning to snowboard, so completing a red or a black run without falling over.
